Broadway & Lawrence View From Starbucks

Gentrification in real time. Along the one block stretch of the west side of Broadway between Lawrence and Gunnison:
Uptown Theatre - largest in Chicago, 4381 seats, closed but under restoration -
Green Mill - oldest cabaret (1910) in the U.S. and birthplace of poetry slams -
Crew - super small g sports bar -
*Uptown Writers Space - above the Green Mill and Crew -
*The Annoyance Theatre - bar + theatre -
*Marigold - Indian restaurant -
*Fat Cat - comfort food -
Shake Rattle & Read - vintage books, records, and memorabilia
*Wilde Pug - soon to open pub
*opened in 2006 or 2007. Crew opened in 2004. Just south of Lawrence is the Riviera Theatre which plays a lot of big name rock acts (Belle & Sebastien, Massive Attack, Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, ....). Just east of Broadway is the Aragon, which features Vietnamese and Latino performers.
