Truman College's Flip Sides

Truman College wins my vote for Bauhaus elegance; two dark, anonymous buildings filling most of the postage stamp campus.Looking north, with the academic building immediately on the left, Red/Purple line tracks on the right.

The only grass on campus.

House Hunters Runner Up

Seen on a recent "House Hunters" program. Along with 1100 West Montrose (Nov 3rd post), this condo on Racine lost out to a place on Sheridan.

Sunnyside between Magnolia & Beacon

Demolition At Wilson Yards

After months of inactivity the heavy equipment comes in; two weeks later the buildings on the NW corner of Broadway and Montrose are gone. These buildings likely were home to some area homeless; where now? Target in April 2009?

1100 West Montrose

This building was on a recent "House Hunters." A young couple was bargain hunting in Uptown. House Hunters always presents three places. The other two were at Racine & Leland (the building with Borders) and Sheridan & Leland. The couple chose the place on Sheridan

All Saints Day

November 1st was the Celtic New Year, according to James Frazer in "The Golden Bough." Frazer has some interesting notes about Halloween/All Saints Day vs the opposite Walpurgisnacht/May Day (Celtic Beltane).
